Do I power the LCR with an amp, a receiver for some of the other speakers, do I need an impedance matching speaker selector (I'm not sure)...I just want some advice from every one out there who knows this type of stuff. All of my speakers are of 8 ohm nominal impedance. Do I wire in series,parallel, daisy chain, etc... I need some advice on how to wire a system for an 11.2 configuration. The reason for this many speakers is the following.
Most sound systems have a test feature, which plays a chime or sound through each of the speakers to assure you each is working . Make sure that the same wire connects the red end of the speaker to the red end of the receiver or they won't work. Most speaker wire is covered in a wax sheath to protect it. You must use scissors or wire cutters to trim this sheath and pull it off, exposing the bright copper wire inside. This wire makes the connection, not the sheath, so you must remove the wax to get your speakers working. If you can't see the speakers from where you are sitting, the sound is being blocked off.

What would be my options then if I don't double up the speakers. Just pay the cost to get the new 11.2 receiver because if thats the case I probably won't ever update. I've actually thought about just removing 2 of my overheads so I only have 2 so I can save money on the receiver but if I did that then I might as well just double up the speakers I'm sure the receiver has enough power to push all 4. All receivers I have seen/used so far allow me to connect all speakers, but I have to choose between one of two 9.2 configs - it'll use all speakers with the exception of either the pair of front wides, or the pair of front highs. As the title states, I have an 11.2 speaker setup. The standard 5 with 2 large subwoofers, plus 2 high rears, 2 high in front, and 2 wide in front.
Always use caution when doing any type of construction. Make sure that when you work with electricity you cut the breaker at the panel before touching any wires. If you aren't skilled handling construction with electricity, call an electrician to do any electrical upgrades for you. The subwoofer is usually labeled as a “sub out” or “sub pre-out,” and may need a specific subwoofer cable. Check that you have the right signal flow. Things should go “out” from the media player and “in” to the TV.

Recommendation for speakers - 11.2 setup
Did lot of research on internet to finalize front speakers, surrounds, and atmos speakers. Could you please recommend affortdable speakers with good quality. Make sure that you're buying a home theater receiver which handles both video and audio, not an audio receiver.Again, the size of receiver that you buy will depend on the number of components that you have to hook up to it. Movies and TV - Most movies are multi-track , meaning 5 or 7 smaller speakers will create a more immersive movie watching experience than 2-3 expensive, large speakers. This helps you create realistic surround sound. Consider whether you prefer watching movies, listening to music, or a bit of both.
Not many people are willing to take the risk on the 11.2. I am refinishing my basement and decided to go with in wall speakers. I feel this is a must if running 11 speakers cause having that many speakers hanging on the walls or sitting on stands will look awful. Instead of a 2x4 stud wall I went with a 2x6 stud and created speaker windows which are recessed and in a "V" shape, for the 4 side surround speakers. Add any additional speakers up high, in the front. Very complex systems, like 9.1 surround sound, come with extra speakers meant to add sound from up top, like in a movie theater.

A lot of 9 channel receivers have 11 channels of processing such as the x3600h or x4500h meaning you can get a cheap 2 channel amp to power Atmos speakers or a nicer one to power LR speakers. In this case, the wires are color coded for easy access. I think this is probably how 11.2 works - as four additional presence channels which carry the echo, reverb, etc. to simulate a different acoustic venue such as hall, theater, etc. You would be best off to check your owners manual and see if there is an explanation of 11.2. Also I think Audioholics did a review of 11.2 in your receiver and that may explain the differences. I use Yamaha presence channels and I like some of the modes, but there are a lot of audioholics that don't like that simulated environment sound, so I would read up a little more before buying four more speakers.
